Rayong, Thailand – September 6 – Dexon Technology teamed up with the Huai Mahat Mountain Community to plant 500 trees, marking a key step in the company’s broader initiative to restore local ecosystems and help in solving the climate crisis.
The Environmental Challenge: Industrial Waste and Depleted Forests
Rayong province is Thailand’s largest industrial hub and home to Map Ta Phut, the country's largest industrial estate. The industrial zone covers 166km² and hosts over 151 factories, power stations, and oil refineries, with Dexon’s headquarters numbering among them.
While the industrial sector has been an economic boon to Rayong—making it the second wealthiest province in Thailand—its success has come at a price: pollution.
The waste from factories has been exacerbated by deforestation and illegal farming in the surrounding areas, decimating local forests and depriving residents of the world’s most effective air purifier – trees.
However, change is underway.
Dexon’s Commitment to Restoration
Local businesses, activists, and government leaders are banding together to tackle these environmental issues, and Dexon is playing its part. Forest restoration is of critical importance. Forests purify the air, water, and soil while strengthening the ecosystem.
In 2012, a large area of Huai Mahat Mountain—just 5 kilometers from Dexon’s headquarters—was reclaimed. The property started out as a depleted wasteland but has since been transformed into a thriving forest.
But there’s still more work to be done.
The forest on Huai Mahat Mountain could take over a century to fully recover. Since the community cannot wait that long, caretakers have taken an active role in the forest’s regrowth.
Last week, Dexon contributed to this ongoing recovery effort by planting 500 trees as part of its 2024 Forest Conservation campaign.
These freshly planted saplings stand just a meter tall today but will eventually grow to over 20m and absorb 4,500 kilograms of carbon dioxide annually. If even half these trees reach maturity, they will capture enough carbon to offset an SUV driving 12 times around the world. Per year.
Each tree planted represents one reusable water bottle that Dexon will distribute to its customers, reinforcing its ongoing commitment to reducing its environmental footprint, offset its carbon production, and reduce waste.
In addition to cleaning the air, these future giants will purify water runoff, cool the area, reduce flooding, and preserve biodiversity. The restored forest has already seen the return of rare animals, like the leopard cat, the large flying fox, and the pangolin.
Looking Forward
This initiative is just one part of Dexon’s broader mission to promote sustainability.
The company has reduced its greenhouse gas emissions by:
Switching to specialized furnaces to reduce pollution from waste burning
Installing solar panels
Working towards a zero-waste workplace
Dexon is committed to preserving the environment not only for those living now but also for future generations.
