Rope Access Inspection: Tackling Tall Tank Inspections Ahead of Schedule

Dexon Technology recently inspected two 35+ meter-high double-wall gas storage tanks, completing the entire scope of work in just 15 days—all while upholding the strict standards required by the Ministry of Energy for its mandated inspections.

Traditionally, operators completed inspections using scaffolding to reach pre-defined points. With a 35m high storage tank with dozens of features to cover, setting-up, breaking down, and doing it all over again drains manpower, stretches the timeline, and interferes with operations.

Combining the full range of NDT methods with rope access dramatically reduced inspection time and operational costs.

The inspections were performed by certified personnel and delivered in compliance with API 653 standards—all while hanging from 12 mm of nylon.

NDT services included:

  • External visual inspection

  • Ultrasonic thickness measurement

  • Tank settlement & plumbness survey

  • Roundness, peaking & banding measurement

  • Eddy current weld testing

  • Grounding resistance measurement

  • Thermography testing

  • Safety device function testing

With Rope Access, the inspection team could move swiftly between inspection points without the need for scaffolding.

Dexon is proud to support this operator in getting their operations safely back on schedule—before schedule—thanks to rope access and efficient execution.
