Dexon Technology USA, Inc. successfully tackled the inspection of an 8” oil pipeline located in North America and featuring a challenging tee junction.
The client required a high-resolution assessment of the pipeline’s integrity, and Dexon secured the contract using their cutting-edge UT-CD Hawk crack and sizing in-line inspection tool. Developed in-house, the UT-CD Hawk is a state-of-the-art system that offers:
Ultrasonic shear wave angle crack inspection.
Extremely high resolution, recording up to 1,000,000 measurements per square meter.
Automated crack recognition capabilities.
Analysis by specially trained data experts.
In addition to detecting cracks, the UT-CD Hawk can assess metal loss, dents, and ovality in pipelines, making it effective for both traditional and "unpiggable" pipes.
Before arriving at the site, Dexon rigorously tested the UT-CD Hawk at their test yard, running the tool for several days without interruption to ensure it could meet and exceed the contract's demanding conditions. The engineering team meticulously recreated the pipeline’s conditions, replicating the bend angles and thickness of the pipe to verify that the UT-CD Hawk could accurately capture the required data. These pre-tests were highly successful.
On the day of the inspection, the Dexon team was confident that the UT-CD Hawk could successfully navigate the tee and complete the line without damaging the tool or compromising the data. Their confidence was well-founded. Although the UT-CD Hawk did encounter an obstruction at the tee, the team adjusted the pressure and pushed the tool onwards. The inspection was successful, and the data returned without issue.
This latest operation is a testament to Dexon’s innovation and resilience. By employing the latest version of the UT-CD Hawk and overcoming challenging conditions, they delivered precise and reliable results for a leading energy supplier in North America.
